In 1940, the East Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventist along with the Jamaica Ministry of Education met, to determine the impact and feasibility of a secondary school to the community. In 1943, the New Hope College was started with eighty three students and five teachers. Within a few years the school was relocated to a new location. At the same time, the name of the school was changed to Kingsway High School (KHS). In the year 2018, KHS will celebrate its 75th anniversary of providing educational opportunities to students with unique and diverse backgrounds.
The Kingsway High School Alumni Association, New York Chapter, Inc. (KHSAANYC 1991–Present) is a 501(c)(3), public, not for profit organization, (Tax ID #-13-3426970).
In 1983, a group of former students of Kingsway High School saw a need. The group was spearheaded by Ms. Clover Morgan Barrows. They eventually convened a meeting at a private home in Silver Spring, Maryland. It was during this meeting that the name Kingsway High School Alumni Association (KHSAA) was adopted. This association was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, during the summer of that same year. The documentation was prepared by a graduate, C. Lloyd Buddoo, Esq. Shortly after the organization was established, it solicited books, computers and tools, which were forwarded to the school. It also solicited funds for the establishment of scholarships. The association started to decline, when many of its members began to leave the Maryland area. The organization eventually ceased to function due to lack of membership and financial support. In 1991, KHSAA, New York Chapter, Inc., (KHSAANYC) was organized through the efforts of Ms. Madge Lacey, Mr. Barrington Wright, Ms. Yvonne Burgess-Wright, Owen Panton, Owen Roberts and a few other past students from the graduating class of 1956. The application was filed be Una Tapper, Esq.
